After about 2 months of on and off designing / coding, i’ve finally managed to relaunch wallpaperjoe.com.   The backend to the former incarnation was proving to be slightly dated, so I upgraded it to the same as for my other site desktopwallpapers.co.uk.  This provided better functionality in terms of adding photos.  I created quite a nice php script which automatically resizes the photos into numerous different thumbnail and full size dimensions.  Along with that, I wanted to add a blog to write photography related posts and showcase some great wallpapers found elsewhere on the net.  This proved to be quite a challenge, but mostly it’s been a success using the awesome wordpress.

Launched my latest website - PhotoTube.tv. This site queries the Flickr API to search for desktop wallpapers. I’ve been getting to grips with some pretty cool tools including Blueprint CSS, Drop Down menu frameworks, jQuery and of course the Flickr API.

Another logo for a project. Originally I created the bug in illustrator and then did some work in Photoshop to achieve the shadows and text.

]]> http://joeprice.co.uk/?feed=rss2&p=282 http://joeprice.co.uk/?p=278 http://joeprice.co.uk/?p=278#comments Wed, 21 Jan 2009 14:14:48 +0000 Joe http://joeprice.co.uk/?p=278 I’ve been experimenting with drawing cartoons in Photoshop using a tablet.  Here’s what i’ve come up with.  Totally random and its a product of my weird imagination.  I found drawing in Photoshop amazingly easy using a brush with shape dynamics ticked allowed for a lot of control over the shape of the lines.  Unfortunately my drawing skills aren’t great, but hopefully improving!

A number of years have passed and the design for desktopwallpapers.co.uk was beginning to look a bit dated. It was due an overhaul, and i’m pretty happy with the result. It’s a difficult task creating a website which produces a decent income as well as looks attractive. e.g. The more ads on a website, the uglier the site looks. I think I’ve reached a suitable balance and the design is clean and easy to read whilst at the same time making good use of empty space for advertising.

Above is the accepted logo for the EASiHE research project. A number of logo ideas were proposed for this project and above is the one they felt was most appropriate. They wanted a look that was suitably professional and simple. The robot was also suggested as a logo, however it was decided to use the robot within the website rather than have it as the logo itself. I’m determined to get this robot used, as it was rejected for the MSFI project, doh!
